HABS Photos Featured in Frank Lloyd Wright Book

Posted on March 2, 2016 by HABS HAER Photographer Stephen Schafer

The HABS (Historic American Buildings Survey) photographs of the Ennis House that I completed for the LA Conservancy’s conservation easement program have been featured in a new book by Pia Licciardi and Leslie M. Freudenheim called Frank Lloyd Wright | The Man Who Played With Blocks.  Frank Lloyd Wright-0379-schaf_photo-0379

In this “Short Illustrated Biography” published by Royalston Books, my photos are used on the inside cover (Above) and on the Table of Contents page (below), as well as to illustrate the text about the Ennis House in Los Feliz, California.

The large-format 5×7 black and white HABS photo survey of the property was supplemented with digital color views from each tripod position. This is standard practice in our HABS surveys because clients want to be able to use the images easily in reports and interpretive displays (as well as the occasional book). I’m honored to have my photographs chosen for this book… now I just need to find the time to read it.
